Public Art Installation Opening with Fran Sisco

Fran Sisco’s new courtyard installation on Sunday October, 18th 1:00-3:00PM

Fran Sisco will be present to discuss her award-winning large wooden sculptures. The artist’s Q&A is followed by three special performances. Singers Teri Lamar (a Westchester favorite) and Freddie Lando (“Golden Voice of the Bronx”) will give a performance accompanied by Baron Raymonde (worldwide sax player) and Joyce Balint (solo mandolinist at the Metropolitan Opera Company, and freelance violinist). Poet Ruth Hanley, who is manager of the Poetry Caravan, a volunteer organization that brings poetry to nursing homes, senior centers and other venues, will perform spoken word poetry. Entertainer Kelly Sisco, Fran’s daughter, will sing a cover and an original song parody with Fran and Fran will recite an original poem.

Brazilian Carnival

Learn about Ghana with traditional folklore, song, dance, and hands-on art making. Award-winning performer Therese Folkes Plair will transport audience members through the magic of storytelling. The narrative journey continues through a traditional dance performance by Dani Criss accompanied by drummer Dylan Greene. Teaching artist Becky Mills will then lead a workshop exploring Adinkra symbology.

Tree Counting in Pelham Manor

Pelham Troop 1 Eagle Scout candidate, Jack Cardwell, in partnership with Pelham Preservation & Garden Society is seeking volunteers to count and identify “street trees” and trees
on public property in the Village of Pelham Manor, on Saturday, April 27.
There will be two tree counting sessions:
1. 9 am to noon
2. 1 pm to 5 pm
Volunteers will meet at 86 Reed Ave to receive instructions and materials.

Paint, rake, prepare and plant flower beds, clear trails and shorelines, restore wildlife habitats and remove invasive vines from trees. All ages can join in this community effort hosted by Westchester Parks Foundation and the Westchester County Parks Department. Drop-in anytime. Advance registration required.

Chinese-English Story Time

Chinese-English Story Time is held every other Saturday morning at the Library, led by local Chinese-speaking parents. Registration is not required.

Bartow Pell Easter Egg Hunt

Hunt for eggs in a lovely formal garden adjacent to a stately historic mansion, enjoy arts and crafts and take photos with the Easter Bunny. Light refreshments offered. Please bring your own basket.

Exploratorium

The Pelham Education Foundation will host an evening at the middle school for people to learn more about our organization and grants. There will be multiple stations where students and teachers will demonstrate how the funds have been used. Examples include: the jazz band will play, cast members from Mamma Mia will give dance lessons and there will be STEAM activities for kids. There will be fun activities for kids as well as free pizza.

Japanese Cherry Blossom Folk Art Festival

Celebrate spring with the eighth annual Japanese Cherry Blossom Festival at Pelham Art Center. A Japanese Taiko drum performance will begin at 1:30 pm. Flower arrangement and origami workshops follow at 2:30 pm. Free and open to all ages.

Pelham Recreation Easter Egg Hunt

The Easter Bunny will “hop” into the Richard J. Daronco Town House and grounds to start a (usually quick) Easter egg hunt followed by a live performance by local kids favorite Zev, face painting, arts & crafts and refreshments. Photos may be taken with the Easter Bunny. Bring your own camera adn Easter basket. Happens rain (in the Town House) or shine.

Pelham House & History Tour 2019

The Pelham house tour is a tradition that started a quarter century ago and continues as one of the most anticipated and beloved celebrations in our town. PMHS PTA and Junior League of Pelham have joined forces to present the Pelham House & History Toura new twist on the long-standing tradition of the PMHS PTA’s beloved House Tour.  In addition to showcasing a selection of approximately six of Pelham’s most noteworthy residences, the community-wide event will celebrate our town’s rich and dynamic history, highlighting historical and architectural points of interest.

All proceeds from the event will be split by the two not-for-profit organizations to support important programs at the high school  and across the Pelham community.

Earth Day Geology Project

Join Museum Educator Robin Vernuccio for an exciting, hands-on workshop for kids ages 7 through 11. Participants will have the chance to investigate evidence of the changing geology of Pelham Bay Park over thousands of years. After experimenting with different types of rocks, the young geologists will make their own marbleized rock and use their new knowledge to create a modern-day map of the landscape to take home.

Paint and Plant

Celebrate ART and NATURE coming together in Pelham – enjoy the newest artistic addition to Woodland Park and listen to a few Earth Day stories.
