HOW TO HELP
* Volunteer
Sign up here to add your contact information to a roster of Pelham volunteers who will be alerted as specific opportunities arise.
* Make Masks
If anyone owns a sewing machine and wants to help with the mask shortage, follow this YouTube tutorial and make as many as you can! Masks can be dropped at 149 Loring Avenue—at this point there is no deadline for the project, but the sooner the better!
* Support Local Businesses
This is a particularly scary time to be a small business owner. If you’re able to do so, support the wonderful businesses that make our little town so special by purchasing gift cards, shopping online, or ordering takeout/delivery. Pelham List is a great resource to give you a sense of who’s open (or accepting orders online or by phone), and in what capacity.
Donate to Pelham Cares: Neighbor to Neighbor to purchase meals from Pelham community restaurants and eateries to be delivered directly to those working on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic. Support our local economy, keeping people employed AND making a meaningful difference to those risking their well-being to keep us all safe and healthy.
* Make Cards
Make cheerful cards for isolated seniors. A great activity for any age. Use large, easy-to-read print
See the websites of DOROT, Meals on Wheels NYC and Meals on Wheels New Rochelle for greeting card donation guideline or drop off at the front gate of Wartburg Mt Vernon with the name “Michaela Byrnes” (the director of recreation who will pass the pictures along to lonely residents).
* Donate to My Sister’s Place
My Sister’s Place, a resource for domestic violence victims, is in dire need of help for their clients and staff right now. They are seeing an increase in hotline calls, as many clients are isolated with their abusers. They are hoping to share support of the community with clients and their staff, who are essential employees who must report to work. They are hoping people can give monetary donations or donate gift cards through Amazon Wishlist. By donating, you will help MSP ensure their 24-hour hotline remains operational so they are able to continue to pick up the phone to provide support, guidance, and safety options.
* The Baby Bank of Westchester
The Baby Bank of Westchester is in urgent need of additional support during these challenging and unprecedented times. Please visit 914cares.org to get involved and help make a difference.
* “Tell ‘Em You’re From Pelham at 7” Thank You Nightly Campaign
Go outside your front door and bang the pots, clang the bells, make the noise, to say thank you to our first responders—our healthcare professionals on the frontline of the COVID-19 pandemic. Every night at 7pm, thank them loud and clear to let them know that all of us—their Pelham neighbors—are with them, too! (Tell all of your neighbors!)
* Pelham Windows Project
Put rainbows and art of all things spring on display in windows and on sidewalks and driveways all around town as part of the Pelham Windows Project, a joint effort by the Prospect Hill, Hutchinson, Colonial, Siwanoy, Pelham Middle and Pelham Memorial High School PTAs.
Consider following and sharing your pics with @rainbowsofwestchester on Instagram, especially for those who cannot go outside at this time.
Also participate in the positivity rock scavenger hunt!
